What has happened in two months? I got a haircut, which was substantial. Well, my haircuts are usually described as substantial owing to the fact that I wait an incredible time between appointments. This time, before settling into the chair, I had looked up men’s hairstyles (google: good haircuts for curly hair for people who don’t want to look like they’re trying too hard) and had decided to go for something a bit different. Now my hair is slicked back, all cool like in the summer sun. Anna calls it my adult haircut.
I’ve been doing a lot of adulting too. I now have life insurance, which is a fascinating kind of capitalist morbidity, but it’s mostly down to the fact that I now have a mortgage. And a house. That’s right, soon I’ll be a west end dweller no longer, instead becoming a southside kind of guy, with an upstairs and a garden. I feel like I need to write my next book in the next month, just so I can claim that it was still written in the bachelor pad where I used to smoke cigarettes and party into the wild hours of the morning.
Speaking of which, my work is… coming along. I think. I had a revelation a few weeks back, a way to reevaluate my whole story and come out with something more coherent and interesting. It’s still a struggle to write, as it always will be, but I’m writing it which is something at least. Mike sent me an article a few weeks ago about taking yourself seriously, and it’s made me rethink how I actually portray myself as a writer. It’s not something I should shy away from, or push down, but something to embrace. Because of this, I feel as though I’m going to be writing more about, you guessed it, writing. I’m sure that won’t become insufferable, but at least I can air my ideas out properly in the winds of the internet.
I haven’t been playing many videogames recently, which I’ll talk about soon, and I haven’t been reading many books or watching many films, which I’ll also talk about soon. Stay tuned.
